Purpose of the App

The purpose of this app is to provide an easier method for users to access content from the NAMI Farmington Valley website. The goal is to make vital mental health resources and community engagement more accessible to those in need, directly through their mobile devices.

Our Mission and Goals

Our mission is to:

  • SUPPORT people with mental illnesses, including children, and their families and friends.
  • EDUCATE and inform people with mental illnesses and their families about services and treatment available in the community.
  • ELIMINATE STIGMA by developing public understanding of the challenges of living with a serious mental illness.
  • ADVOCATE for better services and treatments, protection of rights, and research.

To accomplish these goals, we provide support groups, educational presentations, and classes that are free of charge and open to the public.

Our History

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, started in 1979 as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table and has since blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. Today, we are part of an alliance of more than 600 local affiliates who work in communities to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.

NAMI Farmington Valley began in the mid-1990s with a group of family members who started a monthly NAMI support group for family members of those living with mental illness in Avon, CT. Shortly thereafter, the annual Family-to-Family classes were started. In 2004, this group formed an official local chapter of NAMI and became NAMI Farmington Valley. Our affiliate participated in the first annual NAMI CT Walk in May 2004. Since then, NAMI FV has grown substantially, offering numerous educational events, support groups, classes, book talks, and more.
